About the project
The Veteran Friendly Ontario (VFO) project is a collaboration between Challenge Factory and the True Patriot Love (TPL) Foundation, supported by the Government of Ontario’s Skills Development Fund. We believe improved transition and employment outcomes require a holistic, systems-focused approach that makes Canadian provinces and territories more military Veteran friendly.

Interest Holder Scoping Model and Personas
What we did
Phase 1: Describe the Veteran transition and employment ecosystem
- Map the Veteran transition ecosystem in Ontario and create a Scoping Model with robust personas of its interest holders
- Liaise with Veterans Affairs Canada and the Canadian Armed Forces (Transition Group) to integrate strategies and activities across the ecosystem
- Develop a glossary of terms and program catalogue of the available Veteran transition supports
Phase 2: Learn from large organizations and Veterans within their workforces
- Bring together more than 10 large employers to collaborate and share Veteran hiring and retention best practices
- Develop case studies and tools that help both large organizations and small- to medium-sized businesses (SMEs)
Phase 3: Engage Veterans and SMEs
- Deliver the Veteran Friendly Ontario (VFO) Challenge, a training program that improves the hiring competence of SMEs and the small business acumen of Veterans
- Publish the 2nd edition of The Canadian Guide to Hiring Veterans
